Why It Matters

India's E-Waste Crisis Demands Certified Solutions

India is the world’s third-largest generator of electronic waste, producing over 3 million metric tonnes annually. Despite this, only a fraction is formally recycled — the rest ends up in illegal scrap yards, open landfills, and primitive backyard operations that poison communities and contaminate water tables.

Extended Producer Responsibility — India's E-Waste Law You Must Follow

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is the legal framework under India's E-Waste Management Rules, 2022 that shifts the responsibility for end-of-life electronic product disposal from consumers and municipalities to the companies that manufacture, import, and sell those products in India.
Simply put: if your company sells, imports, or is a large user of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) or batteries in India — you are legally required to ensure a prescribed percentage is collected and responsibly recycled each year, and to prove it with EPR certificates submitted in your annual CPCB return.

Epragathi Recycling is a CPCB-registered Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO) — the legally designated body that can collect e-waste on your behalf and issue the EPR certificates that satisfy your CPCB filing requirements. We handle the entire process: collection, recycling, documentation, and certificate delivery.

How EPR Works in Practice — 4 Steps

CPCB assigns your annual EPR target (based on sales/import volumes)

Epragathi collects e-waste and recycles it at our CPCB-authorised facility

We issue you an EPR certificate in your company's name as a registered PRO

Submit the certificate with annual EPR return to CPCB — compliance achieved

The Scale of India's E-Waste Challenge — And Your Role In It

MT E-Waste Generated Annually

India is the world's 3rd largest generator of electronic waste — producing over 3 million metric tonnes each year, growing at 10–15% annually due to rapid technology adoption.

Formal Recycling Rate
0 %

Only 17% of global e-waste is formally recycled. India's formal recycling rate is lower. The rest ends up in illegal scrap yards, landfills, and informal burning — contaminating soil and water.

Every electronic device contains lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium, and brominated flame retardants — substances that cause cancer, neurological damage.

The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 imposes penalties up to ₹250 crore for data protection failures — including improper IT asset disposal that exposes personal data.

BRSR & ESG Reporting

EPR Compliance as Part of Your Sustainability Reporting

For SEBI-listed companies, EPR compliance is no longer just a legal obligation — it is a mandatory disclosure under the Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reporting (BRSR) framework introduced in 2021. E-waste generation, disposal methods, and EPR certificate status must be disclosed in your Annual Report.

Epragathi Recycling provides a complete BRSR data package alongside every EPR engagement — giving your sustainability team the specific metrics, quantities, and certifications needed for accurate and auditable BRSR disclosure.

We also support ESG reporting under GRI, CDP, and TCFD frameworks — providing the waste data, CO₂ offset calculations, and supply chain sustainability documentation that institutional investors and global customers increasingly require.

BRSR Principle 2 — Sustainable Operations

SEBI's BRSR Principle 2 requires disclosure of e-waste generated and disposed. Our EPR certificate, material recovery report, and CO₂ offset calculation provide all required metrics for this section — including quantities in MT, disposal method, and recycler authorisation status.

ESG Rating Impact

Global ESG rating agencies (MSCI, Sustainalytics) consider e-waste management as part of their environmental scores. A certified, documented EPR programme with an R2v3-authorised partner improves your waste management score and demonstrates supply chain sustainability to institutional investors.

Vendor Sustainability Assessments

Global multinationals increasingly require Indian suppliers to demonstrate EPR compliance as part of vendor onboarding and annual vendor sustainability assessments. Our EPR certificate and R2v3 certification satisfy most multinational vendor ESG scorecards.
